DVD Identifier 5.0.1.0 retrieves and analyzes the pre-recorded information present on DVDs, HD DVDs, and Blu-Ray. This information contains parameters such as disc manufacturing information and supported write speeds. Some of this information is usually printed on the packaging, but the brand name may differ from the actual manufacturer. Sometimes there might not even be any packaging information at all. When you install the program, the Manufacturer Database is included. The version on this installation package was dated October 8th, 2006. By default, the program will lookup for software and database updates from the manufacturer's site with each run. There were no updates available at the time this review was written. When you put some media in the drive, and you press the "Identify" button, DVD Identifier will bring up the information about Disk & Book Type, Manufacturer Name and ID and Blank Disc Capacity. This is the information for plain DVD-R, you will get more information with other media. Under "Additional Info" you can access the program messages, the capacity on your drive and the Media Code-Block.
