Favicons

Ever noticed how sometimes when you bookmark a site, a customized icon appears next to the site title in the favorites menu or the address bar? Like this:

example

Well, it's called a favicon, short for favorites icon. It's just an icon file named "favicon.ico" and uploaded to your root web directory. The icon should be 16x16 pixels, and have 16 colors.

To make your icon, download one of these icon editors:
Microangelo
IconForge

or use a free online favicon maker:
Favicon From Pics

If your favicon doesn't work automatically, or you use more than one icon with different names, add this line of code to your document head:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.mydomain.com/myicon.ico">
